Your Bank Account Is NOT Your Identity: Liberated Lessons #2 - Money, Shame & Entrepreneur Burnout
💰 Can we talk about money shame? I became an entrepreneur because I wanted more freedom - more control over my time, more opportunity to create, and more space to live in my purpose. But somewhere along the journey, I realized that I had started connecting my income to my identity. When business was good, I felt successful. When there were valleys, missed goals or financial challenges, the questions became much more personal: Am I irresponsible? Am I failing? Am I really cut out for entrepreneurship? Should I just go get a 9-to-5? That’s when financial information can turn into financial shame and financial shame can fuel overworking, fear and burnout. Today’s Liberated Lesson: ✨ Your bank account is information. It is NOT your identity. Your revenue is information. Your expenses are information. Your debt is information. Your sales are information. Sometimes that information requires us to make difficult decisions, pivot, earn more, spend less or change our strategy. But accountability and shame are not the same thing. 💭 YOUR REFLECTION: Have you ever allowed your financial situation to determine how successful, capable or worthy you felt? What is the financial fact you’re dealing with right now and what story have you attached to it? And what would happen if you stopped asking, “What does this say about me?” and started asking: “What is this information teaching me, and what do I need to do next?” 👇🏾 Let’s talk about it in the comments. 🔔 SUBSCRIBE for more Liberated Lessons on wellness, wealth, friendship, entrepreneurship, healing, growth and liberation. 🌍 Want to continue these conversations with girlfriends around the world? Liberated Lessons #1: Progress Over Perfection (Because Perfect Doesn’t Exist!)
✨ LIBERATED LESSONS #1: PROGRESS OVER PERFECTION Girlfriends, I finally did it. 🎥 I’ve been saying for MONTHS that I wanted to consistently share more of the lessons, reflections and tools that are helping me rethink wellness, wealth, friendship, healing, business, growth and success. But I kept waiting. Until I was camera ready. Until I had the perfect setting. Until I had everything mapped out. And today, sitting in my car between dropping my kids off and teaching class, I had a little Gentle Confrontation with myself: ✨ When does preparation become procrastination? ✨ And how often is procrastination really perfectionism wearing a convincing outfit? So I pressed RECORD. Right there in my car. 😂 Because sometimes liberation looks like simply allowing yourself to START. 💭 TODAY’S REFLECTION: What have you been delaying because you don’t feel “ready”? What would the minimum version of that dream, idea, conversation or goal look like if your only assignment was to make meaningful progress TODAY? And what could change in your life if you chose progress over perfection? 👇🏾 Drop your answer in the comments. I want us to hold each other accountable. The Husbands Speak: Loving Women Who Lead.
What's It Really Like to Be Married to a Woman Doctor? Throughout this season of All Docs on Deck, we've heard powerful stories from women of color doctors as they courageously pulled back the curtain on the realities of leadership, healing, identity, purpose, and the lived experiences behind their professional titles. As we prepare to close out this powerful season, we wanted to leave you with one final conversation - one told through a different lens. In this special bonus episode, we invite two very important voices into the conversation: our husbands. For the first time, Randy Adkins Jr. and Shawn Williams join us to share what it's really like to love, support, and grow alongside two Black women doctors who are purpose-driven, entrepreneurial, multi-passionate, and deeply committed to serving others. Throughout this series, our mission has been to humanize the doctor. This conversation completes that mission by offering a perspective only our life partners can provide. They have witnessed the celebrations no one else sees, the difficult seasons that happen behind closed doors, the sacrifices, the resilience, and the everyday moments that never make it into the spotlight. Behind every title is a person. Behind every accomplishment is a relationship. And behind every doctor is a human being still learning how to love, heal, rest, and grow. Together, we discuss the realities of marriage, communication, partnership, sacrifice, vulnerability, and what it takes to build a relationship that can thrive while navigating careers, businesses, ministry, and purpose. Our husbands also share their own perspectives on mental health and wellness as Black men, the practices that help them stay grounded, and what they've learned about caring for themselves while supporting us. You'll also hear the stories that started it all - from how we met and fell in love to the moments that shaped our marriages and continue to strengthen them today. This conversation isn't about perfection - it's about partnership and choosing one another through seasons of growth, challenge, success, and change. Most importantly, it's a reminder that before the degrees, before the businesses, before the audiences, and before the titles, we are simply two women who deeply value love, family, friendship, and living lives aligned with purpose. Because behind every doctor is a human story worth knowing. In This Episode, We Discuss: • What it's really like to be married to women doctors • Balancing marriage, entrepreneurship, purpose, and family • The unseen sacrifices that relationships require • Mental health and wellness from the perspective of Black men • Supporting your partner without losing yourself • Communication during seasons of growth and transition • How we met and the love stories that brought us together • What continues to strengthen our marriages today • The importance of choosing one another through every season Reflection Questions • What does support look like in your closest relationships? • How do you care for yourself while caring for someone else? • What sacrifices have strengthened your relationships? • How do you continue choosing your partner through seasons of growth? • What does partnership mean beyond romance? Takeaways • Strong relationships are built through intentional communication. • Love requires continual growth from both partners. • Supporting someone else's purpose should never come at the expense of your own well-being. • Mental wellness matters for everyone including the people providing support. • High achievement doesn't eliminate the need for rest, vulnerability, or connection. • Behind every successful person is a deeply human story. Whether you're married, dating, building a career, leading a business, or simply seeking healthier relationships, we hope this conversation reminds you that success is even more meaningful when it's shared with people who truly see you.
